Drawing from the musical traditions of the Iberian Peninsula, clarinetist and singer Carola Ortiz, in partnership with multi-instrumentalist Alex Guitart, performs a curated collection of songs that includes old ballads, pandero songs, ahechaos, and vetlatori dances, recounting centuries-old stories from a female perspective and reimagined with a contemporary flair. Carola's haunting, lushly toned voice takes centre stage. The combination of Iberian and Oriental instruments results in an unexpected fusion that allows seemingly distant cultures to find common ground. Incorporating elements of improvisation, electronic textures, and modal harmonies, the project creates a profound, contemporary sound experience.

Cádiz-based Spanish guitarist and composer Pipo Romero combines the energy of flamenco, Iberian and Latin American folk traditions with a contemporary, lyrical compositional method. His innovative approach to the guitar fuses various techniques, resulting in a sound that bridges tradition and modernity.

At this Cankarjevi torki concert, imbued with a Spanish flavour, Pipo Romero’s guitar is coupled with the violin, thus further highlighting his technical prowess and distinctive instrumental voice. The violin lyrically complements the rhythmically and harmonically more complex guitar part, birthing a dialogue that flows naturally between intimate, chamber-music moments and vibrant dance energy.

Romero’s latest album, Alborado, was showcased at last year's Womex 2025 in Tampere, Finland, and his music has also reached international audiences through film and television. Composing the score for Netflix’s Berlín series, Romero was nominated for a Premios de la Academia de la Música award for best music. He has performed at prestigious venues and festivals worldwide, including Lincoln Center (NYC), Kennedy Center (Washington D.C.), Palais Montcalm (Canada), the Budapest Jazz Festival, as well as festivals in Colombia, South Korea, and Taiwan.
