Cankarjev dom’s new music and literature series taking place in the Alma Karlin Hall focuses on an interlacement of music and narration flowing seamlessly into one another in the search for meaning, rhythm, and emotion. The series opens up space for an intimate yet engaging experience, where poetry, narrative, and music come together in an insightful reflection on our times.
The series features accomplished artists, all masters in the art of blending genres. We are putting a renewed spotlight on productions that are too good to be closed just yet: Jani Kovačič, with his penetrating social insight and boundless singer-songwriter energy; Salamander, intertwining poetry and sound into magical ambient landscapes; the Tori / Šteger duo – a combination of accordion and subversive narration that unfolds like a personal historical account; Katja Šulc, subtly interlacing an eclectic collection of poetry, traditional song and storytelling; and the duo Ofak/Mori feat. Ivan Lotrič narrating the stories of Josip Jurčič and Ivan Tavčar in their own special way. More than just a concert or literary evening – the series seeks to establish a dialogue between music and narrative, between the artist and the listener. In the spirit of Alma Karlin, a Slovenian traveller, writer, poet, and polyglot after whom the venue is named, the series invites us to explore the world – both external and internal.
The forthcoming editions will focus on young contemporary poetry and authors, and will include slam poetry, spoken word, and concerts combining music with literature featuring local and international artists.
