Pablo Martín Caminero & David Carpio: Al cante × Urška Centa

Noches de Tablao

In flamenco, music and dance are inseparable. Neither can truly come to life without the other. It is in the space between sound and movement that three distinctive artistic voices meet, each exploring in their own way how the body and sound can continually find new ways of bringing tradition into the present without diminishing its power.

Following Al toque, dedicated to flamenco guitar, and Al baile, dedicated to dance, acclaimed double bassist, composer and producer Pablo Martín Caminero turns to singing with his project Al cante. At its heart is his collaboration with David Carpio, one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Jerez, whose interpretation conveys the richness and expressive power of flamenco in its most direct form.

Caminero is an artist of exceptional breadth and one of the most forward-thinking musicians of his generation. After studying classical double bass in Vienna, he continued his artistic journey in Madrid, where he developed a remarkably diverse creative practice. He has collaborated with artists such as Jorge Pardo, Gerardo Núñez, Dhafer Youssef, Chano Domínguez, Niño Josele, Rocío Molina and Ana Morales, as well as numerous other figures from jazz, flamenco, early music, dance and theatre. His work encompasses original albums, film scores, ballet productions and international concert projects, consistently challenging the boundaries between genres. In Al cante, two seemingly contrasting poles converge: the freedom of contemporary musical creation and the depth of flamenco tradition.

Created especially for the Noches de Tablao series, the project also brings together Caminero and Urška Centa, a dancer, choreographer and performer whose distinctive body of work has evolved over many years at the intersection of flamenco, contemporary dance, performance and musical exploration. Rather than reproducing established dance forms, she approaches the body as a space for creative risk, listening and transformation. In her stage language, the technical precision of flamenco meets the openness of improvisation and contemporary choreographic thought. Her dance becomes a space where different temporalities, experiences and meanings converge, and where tradition is not a memory of the past, but a creative force in the present.
The encounter between these three distinctive artistic personalities opens up a space in which the singing of Jerez, jazz creativity and contemporary dance do not merely coexist, but combine to create a shared artistic experience. Al cante × Urška Centa explores questions of transformation, transmission and creative renewal. What emerges from the old is not repeated but reinvented. At a time when speed and instant appeal are so often demanded, the project creates space for an encounter with a living artistic organism capable of bringing different forms of expression into coexistence.
