This year’s PC subscription series will be rounded off by the Seventh Symphony, which also serves as an invitation to continue the celebration of the Beethoven Year with us in the autumn of 2027. At its first performance, this “apotheosis of dance” was received with unbridled enthusiasm by the audience, who demanded a reprise of the second movement as soon as the symphony ended. Today, classical music enthusiasts are also excited by the fact that the orchestra at the first performance was led by concertmaster Ignac Zupančič, while Louis Spohr and Giacomo Meyerbeer were among the orchestral players, and Antonio Salieri is said to have participated as an assistant conductor. The performance was conducted by the great Ludwig van Beethoven himself.
