Jan Čibej, Luka Poljanec, percussion
In April 2017, on the initiative of their professor and mentor Simon Klavžar, young percussionists Jan Čibej and Luka Poljanec rose to the challenge of taking part in the prestigious International Percussion Competition taking place triennially in Luxembourg and open to percussion duos, trios and quartets. In February 2018, by winning both the Jury Prize and the Audience Prize, the Dendrocopos Duo were the competition’s incontestable laureates. In March 2018, taking part in the Svirél International Music Competition, the Duo won the Golden Plaque in the category of chamber groups and performed at the concluding concert featuring ten finalists.
They both started playing percussion at an early age and have since achieved a lot of success as soloists in many competitions. During their studies, Jan and Luka actively participated in various summer academies and attended many masterclasses where they worked with world-renowned percussionists.
Regularly playing national and international venues, they performed in Pleven, Bulgaria, at the “Katya Popova Laureate Days” festival, at the Radford University in Virginia, USA, gave four concerts under the auspices of Jeunesses Musicales Slovenia in Braslovče, the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall in Ljubljana, in Celje and in Murska Sobota. One of their most memorable experiences is the joint performance with the Drumartica percussion duo in the Philharmonie Luxembourg, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the IPCL competition.
