Swan Lake

Classical Ballet Theatre UBT
Organised by: Adriko

Do not miss the additional performance at 4 p.m.

Swan Lake is one of the most beloved and enduring ballets in the world, composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The ballet tells the captivating story of a young prince, Prince Siegfried, who encounters a group of enchanting swan maidens while hunting in a forest. These swan maidens are under a spell and can only take human form at night.

Prince Siegfried falls deeply in love with one of the swan maidens, Princess Odette, who reveals that she and her companions are under the curse of the evil sorcerer Rothbart. By day, they are swans, and only at night can they return to their human forms. The spell can only be broken if a prince pledges true love to Odette.

However, the story takes a dramatic turn when Prince Siegfried is deceived by Rothbart's daughter, Odile, who is magically transformed to look like Odette. The prince mistakenly declares his love for Odile, breaking Odette's heart.

Realizing his mistake, Prince Siegfried rushes back to the lake to find Odette, who forgives him. In a final act of sacrifice, they decide to die together rather than remain separated by Rothbart's curse. Their love is so powerful that it defeats Rothbart, breaking the curse on the swan maidens.

"Swan Lake" is a ballet filled with themes of love, betrayal, and the power of true love to overcome adversity. It's known for its breathtaking choreography, Tchaikovsky's enchanting score, and its timeless appeal, making it a cherished classic in the world of ballet.
