Carlo Goldoni, Predrag Lucić: Le Baruffe
Directed by: Vito Taufer
Songs: Predrag Lucić, Iztok Mlakar; Co-production: Slovenian National Theatre Nova Gorica, Theatre Koper, Slovenian Permanent Theatre in Trieste, Istrian National Theatre – City Theatre Pola
The streets of a coastal Istrian town in Austria-Hungary provide the setting for the comic struggles within a noisy community of fishermen, seamen and women. Candyfloss, some tobacco and a propensity for dišpet (defiance) are enough to spark a heated neighbourhood dispute. Set in Istria rather than a Venetian lagoon, Goldoni’s popular comedy inspired an award-winning reworking co-produced by four professional littoral theatres from three countries. A comedy of passion and madness reflecting conflict-ridden modern times, the production’s multi-lingual vivacity invites insightful new readings.
