Committed to the rediscovery of 17th- and 18th-century masterpieces, the Venice Baroque Orchestra is recognised as one of the premier ensembles devoted to period instrument performance. Under the leadership of harpsichord player and explorer Andrea Marcon, the ensemble has been reviving the forgotten historical masterpieces and re-imagining well-known works. In the spirit of a true Baroque orchestra, the ensemble’s line up is adapted in compliance with the requirements of the repertoire. The red thread is Vivaldi, his widely familiar compositions as well as those virtually unknown. The orchestra has been enthralling the audiences worldwide with their fresh energy, stylistic idiosyncrasy and clarity of sound.

Franco Fagioli is ranked among the finest of today’s singers, increasingly in demand at the world’s leading opera houses, concert halls and festivals. He is an utterly beguiling interpreter, both in big display pieces, where his vocal athleticism is staggering, and in slower, more intimate numbers. Reviewers have praised the countertenor’s “legendary suppleness”, his “prodigious agility, three-octave range and vast array of vocal colours”, and “quick-fire coloratura and audacious plunges”.

With a view to enhancing the acoustic experience the concert will be held on the proscenium, in front of the safety curtain.
