Russia is certainly among the European countries with the most distinctive traditions in classical music. The originality and picturesqueness of the music of Russian composers ensures them a place on world stages, while their reputation is enhanced by excellent Russian performers. On the present programme, works by three Russian composers will be performed by two outstanding soloists: Russian conductor Vladimir Fedoseyev, who is the former leader of the Vienna Symphony and the artistic director of the Moscow Radio Orchestra, and Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko, whose repertoire includes works of Viennese Classicism, Romantic and Classical repertoire, as well as compositions by contemporary Russian composers .
In addition to Mussorgsky’s popular Night on Bald Mountain and Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, we will hear a composition by Nikolai Medtner, a piano virtuoso and contemporary of Rachmaninoff and Scriabin. In his rich opus, there are no works whose ensembles fail to include the piano. Medtner’s Second Piano Concerto was created in the 1920s and is dedicated to the composer’s colleague Rachmaninoff.
