William Shakespeare: HamletDirected by Oskaras Korsunovas OKT / Vilnius City Theatre, Lithuania When staging Hamlet, Oskaras Korsunovas, Director of the OKT - Vilnius City Theatre and one of the most compelling young European theatre directors, rethought his creative work completely, presenting yet another possibility of looking at the nature of theatre analytically with an artistically free interpretation of W. Shakespeare. “Hamlet is the most current work of our time”, writes Korsunovas. “Hamlet's doubts at first seem absurd. Our existence is so comfortable and the future seems almost guaranteed, but feeling safe can be a very dangerous thing. In reality, each of us must look for the future within ourselves and not in political slogans or advertisements. We must rip off the veil that hides life from us and tear open our apparently safe existence”. |
